About People’s
Since 1971, People's has served Ocean Beach and the greater San Diego community high quality, healthy, vegetarian, organic foods & wellness products.
Nourishing our Community
Everyone is welcome at People’s! We are the only member-owned grocery store in San Diego, and this means we are guided by co-operative principles and care deeply about the community. The Co-op donates to local organizations and schools, partners with several local businesses, and hosts craft fairs, cookouts, live music, events & so much more while providing a space for the community to gather & learn!
Organic, Sustainable & Local
Our entire Produce Department is 100% Certified Organic & we source hundreds of Local farmers / producers, offering local whenever possible. We carry natural foods, bulk and wellness products that are organic, sustainably sourced, fair trade, non-GMO, cruelty-free, minimally processed and environmentally safe. We are always working to improve our sustainability measures!
Affordability & Food Access
We're part of a co-operative of co-operatives around the country which allows us to score great discounts! Join People’s for just $15 a year to access exclusive sales & deals. Buy in Bulk & seasonally to save more on your grocery bill, and look for Co-op Deals & Basics for the lowest prices possible. We also accept EBT & offer a wonderful food access program for low income shoppers called FLOWER: $5 ownership + 5% off every shop.
Own a Grocery Store with your friends!
Unlike corporate chains, food co-ops are totally independent and owned by folks from the community. So instead of focusing on investors, food co-ops focus on their community. Co-ops are the place to find the best local food because they know their local farmers and family business owners by name. Food co-ops believe that good food is just the beginning of what people can achieve by working together.
Here’s how it works:
Everyone is welcome to shop, eat and hang out at a food co-op. And everyone is welcome to join by becoming an owner. Owners get access to owner savings, as well as a vote to choose the Board of Directors and impact the co-op’s future direction. The benefits of ownership also extend to the entire community because Co-ops keep money in their local economy, increase the market and access for locally produced food, and prioritize business practices that are good for people and the planet. No other grocery store is so deeply rooted right in their community!
So, if you like the idea of a neighborhood gathering place for fresh, healthy and delicious food — one that’s committed and connected to the local community — the co-op’s doors are wide open to everyone, and there’s always a seat for you at the co-op table!
